Choi Seok Dong embodies the spirit of perseverance, discipline, and honour. As he prepares to represent Korea at the 2025 World Championship in Barcelona, Choi brings not only decades of experience but a deep sense of responsibility—to his country, his family, and to Taekwon-Do itself. We sat down with him to hear how he balances it all and what drives him forward.
“Representing my country is the highest honour and source of pride.”
Choi doesn’t take this opportunity lightly. Competing on the world stage is a personal dream—but also a duty. “It comes with a great sense of responsibility,” he says. “That’s why I will do my absolute best to prepare for my homeland.”
Reaching this point hasn’t been easy.
“As a father of four, a husband, a master, and a practitioner, the biggest obstacle has been the lack of time.”
Despite the demands of daily life, Choi continues to train with dedication and purpose—fuelled by the same mindset he teaches others.

His physical transformation is proof of his commitment.
“I’ve lost over 10 kilograms preparing for this competition. Although it’s pushed me to the limit, I’m overcoming it with the spirit of Taekwon-Do.”
He follows a disciplined routine to stay in top form throughout the event.
When it comes to performance, Choi is clear:
“Mental preparation determines everything.”
Without mental control, he says, technical skill means little. His ability to regulate stress, remain calm, and stay focused is what allows him to perform at his best.
Victory in a tournament of this magnitude often hinges on the smallest of details. “Physical condition, matchups, even judging styles—everything counts,” he notes.
“In the East, we say: ‘Do your best and leave the rest to heaven.’”
Choi’s philosophy is grounded in effort and acceptance: control what you can, and trust the rest.
If given the chance, he’d gladly face any great international athlete in an exhibition match—“It would be an honour,” he says simply. For Choi, competition is about mutual respect, not ego.
And if he had to summarise what this World Championship means to him in just one sentence?
“Taekwon-Do is life.”
Outside the ring, he’s also excited for another reason: “Spain is a country I’ve always dreamed of visiting,” he shares. “So beyond the competition, I’m very excited and full of anticipation.”
As Barcelona 2025 approaches, Choi Seok Dong stands ready. Balancing family, duty and discipline, he arrives not just to compete, but to live fully the philosophy that guides his every step: Taekwon-Do is not a sport—it’s life.
