The seasoned American Taekwon-Do athlete prepares to close a remarkable career at the 2025 World Championship in Barcelona

For Tim Thibodeaux, representing the United States at the World Championship is more than just competition—it’s a lifelong dream come true. Having first competed for his country in 2012 in Canada, Tim’s dedication to Taekwon-Do has been unwavering, despite balancing life’s many demands.

“Representing the United States has always been a dream of mine.”

Like many elite athletes, Tim’s biggest challenge hasn’t been the sport itself, but the complex juggling act of life. During previous championships, he was attending university without access to a dedicated Dojang, relying on cross-training and creativity. More recently, after graduating, marriage and a full-time career have added to the mix.

“Balancing everything has always been the obstacle.”

Tim’s approach to the 2025 tournament in Barcelona is simple and proven: stick to what works. Understanding that mental and physical energy are precious commodities, he carefully plans time to recharge between matches. His mental preparation includes vivid visualization techniques—imagining every move, every opponent, and every board break in detail.

The key to success, Tim explains, often lies in the finer details: a thorough knowledge of the rules and judges’ expectations, combined with unwavering confidence.

As he approaches this championship with a unique sense of finality, Tim reflects on a career rich in experiences and growth. This event marks his decision to step back from competition and pass the torch to the next generation.

“This is my last championship as an athlete.”

Beyond the competition, Tim looks forward to reconnecting with the global community of friends he’s made along the way—reminding us all that Taekwon-Do is as much about the bonds forged as the medals won.
