Cliodhna O’Brien (Ireland) opens up about sacrifice, strategy, and the spirit of the 2025 ITF World Championship
Representing your country on the world stage is not just about skill—it’s about pride, sacrifice, and an unwavering mindset. For Irish competitor Cliodhna O’Brien, the road to Barcelona 2025 has been paved with victories, discipline, and the strength of community.
“To represent Ireland in Taekwon-Do means to stand tall,” she affirms, “to fight with heart, and to show the world the strength, the passion, and the unwavering pride of the Irish.”

Earning her place on the team was no small feat. Cliodhna had to overcome fierce national competition to claim one of the only two spots available in sparring, patterns, and power breaking. Her selection is the result of relentless dedication and high-level performance.
But physical training isn’t the only factor in her preparation. Under the guidance of a sports psychologist, she relies on mental strategies like visualization and staying focused “in the zone” during competition days. “I will have no distractions,” she says firmly, emphasizing the power of psychological readiness.

When it comes to small details that make or break a performance at such a high level, Cliodhna highlights something unique: team unity. “I’m lucky enough to be part of a huge Irish squad, and I’ll have all of my friends and teammates close by to cheer me on.” In her words, it’s that support system that fuels her spirit and raises her performance.
And as for her ambitions? She’s clear and fearless: “I would like to fight the current world champion—because to be the best, you have to train with the best.”
More than just a tournament, Barcelona 2025 represents a personal summit: “The culmination of hard work, sacrifice, and pure determination.” But the journey doesn’t stop at medals. Cliodhna treasures the friendships forged in training and is eager to share the experience with those who walked the road with her.
