- Poffertjes

They are little pancakes. They have the same recipe as those in the US. They are usually served on a paper plate, with powdered sugar and a piece of butter. When the wind blows the powdered sugar everywhere even on your face and clothes, and that’s part of the game. You can also eat these pancakes with stroop (syrup), slagroom (whipped cream) or aardbeien (strawberries).
2) Rookworst

It is a type of smoked sausage made with ground meat, spices, and salt. It is one of the key ingredients of the Stamppot (typical Dutch dish – it is a mixture of boiled potatoes with vegetables and sauce).
3) Bitterballen

They are crispy fried balls made from meat, beef broth, flour and butter. They are usually seasoned with salt and pepper and mustard. They are served in bars as an aperitif with a good beer.
4) Appelflap

This sweet is made from puff pastry in a triangular shape. It is filled with apple, cinnamon and covered with sugar.
5) Kroketten

It is the Dutch version of the Spanish croquettes of a lifetime! They are usually prepared with fish or beef, peas and potatoes. At Mc Donald’s you can find the McKroket menu! A large croquette of breaded and fried meat.
