As the Head Coach of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Coco Bosobi carries more than the responsibility of preparing a team—he represents the spirit, dedication, and progress of Taekwon-Do in his country. With his team set to compete at the ITF World Championships 2025 in Barcelona, Bosobi reflects on his experience, training philosophy, and the emotional power of the sport.
A Championship Atmosphere That Inspires
Coach Bosobi recalls the atmosphere of previous world events, such as the 2023 World Cup in South Korea, as a benchmark for excellence:
“We were really happy with the organization. The atmosphere was very good.”
He sees these events not just as tournaments, but as celebrations of Taekwon-Do’s unity and growth across the world.
The Mind is the Foundation
For Coach Bosobi, mental readiness is inseparable from physical training:
“Without psychological preparation, the athlete will not have a strong mind.”
His approach combines rigorous physical routines with morale-building and mindset training, preparing athletes to stay composed, overcome fear, and control emotions, especially under pressure.

Facing Global Challenges with Adaptability
Preparing to compete abroad brings unique challenges, from climate and time zone shifts to changes in diet. His strategy is to anticipate and address them well in advance:
“We prepare the athlete’s morale to face these changes through specific exercises.”
In the Heat of the Match
When facing tough opposition, Bosobi maintains composure and adjusts:
“The first strategy is always to encourage, then change tactics to get back on track.”
He guides athletes with calmness and sharp observation, reminding them not to “dance to the rhythm” of their opponent—but to keep their own pace and take control.
Coaching with Heart and Faith
Victories bring pride, but the emotional control of the coach remains constant:
“We avoid showing fear or frustration, and teach the athlete to manage fear and anger—to continue the fight well.”
Bosobi’s routine with his team is rooted in training and prayer, staying true to a disciplined yet humble path.

A Knockout Moment—and a Turning Point
One of his most emotional moments came when one of his athletes achieved a knockout victory against a Korean fighter during the World Cup in South Korea—a landmark win for DR Congo.
That same tournament also changed the way he trains:
“Given the intensity of the competition, we improved our way of doing things.”
Words to a Younger Self
If he could go back to the beginning of his coaching journey, Coach Bosobi would offer the wisdom of experience:
“Train hard and stay humble, disciplined.”
With a grounded philosophy, technical knowledge, and deep belief in his team, Coco Bosobi is preparing DR Congo for a powerful showing in Barcelona.
