Cathal Fegan, a respected Taekwon-Do instructor from Ireland, has embarked on a journey to widely disseminate Taekwon-Do through his podcast project, called “One Hit Podcast.” In a recent interview, Fegan spoke to us about the origin of his podcast, his vision, and the impact he hopes to achieve in the Taekwon-Do community.
Fegan initiated his podcast project in November 2019, choosing the name “One Hit Podcast” with a purpose deeply rooted in the essence of Taekwon-Do itself. Inspired by the timeless wisdom of General Choi, who advocated that Taekwon-Do practitioners should require only one decisive strike to defend themselves, Fegan found resonance in the notion, believing it encapsulated the spirit of his podcast perfectly. *”The name came from General Choi explaining that Taekwon-Do students should only need one hit to defend themselves. I thought the name was very fitting, especially when I’ll be chatting with ITF Masters and Instructors,”* commented Fegan.
Fegan’s motivation to initiate his own Taekwon-Do podcast stemmed from a desire to extend his promotional efforts beyond local clubs and onto a global stage. He envisioned his podcast as a potent tool to promote the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) worldwide. Since its inception, “One Hit Podcast” has garnered a diverse audience spanning over 35 countries, with significant followings in the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland. Fegan’s vision extends beyond mere discussions of Taekwon-Do techniques; it delves into the personal journeys of his guests, explores their lives beyond martial arts, and unravels their paths to the ITF.
Fegan’s aspirations for “One Hit Podcast” transcend conventional boundaries. His aim is to engage in profound conversations with revered figures within the ITF, including luminaries such as President Choi Jung Hwa, Grand Master Nicholls, and Grand Master Galarraga, among others. Additionally, Fegan plans to introduce a dedicated podcast segment focusing on major championships, providing post-event analyses by conversing with competitors, referees, coaches, and other stakeholders to celebrate the triumphs and successes of these prestigious events.
When asked about the caliber of individuals he seeks to interview, Fegan emphasized his preference for ITF instructors and masters, citing their unparalleled ability to impart wisdom and experience to his audience. His extensive experience as a Taekwon-Do instructor for over 15 years has paved the way for meaningful dialogues with guests, many of whom he considers friends forged through shared experiences within the ITF community.
Fegan remains committed to maintaining a regular podcast schedule, aiming to release new episodes at least once a month, with an average duration of 45 minutes each. His dedication ensures that listeners can consistently engage with fresh and informative content. “One Hit Podcast” is accessible on all major podcast platforms, with Spotify serving as its primary host. Additionally, Fegan extends the podcast experience to visual mediums by uploading podcast episodes as videos on YouTube, ensuring accessibility to a wider audience.
For those seeking to delve into the world of Taekwon-Do and gain insights from esteemed practitioners and masters, “One Hit Podcast” stands as a beacon of knowledge and inspiration, uniting continents and communities in a shared celebration of excellence in the martial arts.
