Sometimes it happens even if nobody wants it. A long-awaited fight is cut short by the injury of one of the competitors. This is what happened this afternoon on the second day of the ITF World Cup in the Netherlands.

To define the new Men’s Youth Sparring World Champion up to 65 kg, an exciting duel was expected between Tyo Maksim from Uzbekistan and Tomás Benardoni representing Argentina. A combat that promised to be of high intensity as it was showing the previous keys.

Shortly after the start of the final, the Uzbek team confirmed to the authorities that Tyo would not be able to perform due to injury.

Tomás is the new World Champion of the category and adds a new medal for his country. The Argentine youth highlighted how difficult the competition was and the very tough tableau that he had to overcome to win the gold medal. “In the beginning everything was very hard, in a fight where we had to go to the tiebreaker” he explained.
